| 1964 Father Gordon Mycue and Jerry Choromanski create the vision for The Saint Therese Care Center.
A corporation and board of directors is established and soon the Saint Therese Home receives permission from the Archdiocese to establish a free-standing, non-profit nursing home sustained by its rate structure and charitable support.
1965 The board of directors purchases 11 acres of land in New Hope and blueprints are drawn for a 200-bed nursing home.
1966 Ground is broken on June 19th.
1968 Saint Therese admits our first resident on January 9th.
1972 In October, construction of a third floor begins, adding 100 beds, offices, an auditorium and activity space.
1979 A 220-unit apartment complex is completed adjacent to the Care Center. Saint Therese is among the first to see a need for facilities to meet the social, spiritual, recreational and medical needs of independent retired persons.
2002 Assisted Living program is implemented in Saint Therese Residence, allowing tenants to lead more active, fulfilling lives and remain in their apartments longer.
2002 Alzheimer’s Dementia unit opens, offering a more home-like setting, beautiful surroundings, added space and an enclosed patio that enhances dining, programming and family visits.
2003 First Palliative Care Unit in a nursing home in the Midwest is opened. Includes the construction of an Ice Cream Parlor, where residents and families can visit.
2005 Large patio is added next to the Ice Cream Parlor, where residents gather socially to enjoy each other’s company, participate in group activities such as picnics, parties, bible study groups and special outdoor worship opportunities.
2006 Saint Therese opens its second residence on 15 acres of land at Oxbow Lake in Brooklyn Park.
2011 Saint Therese opens a third campus offering highly specialized nursing care to individuals with end-stage chronic or terminal illess--Saint Therese at St. Odilia in Shoreview. The intimate setting features eight private care suites and bathrooms in a beautfiul home on the St. Odilia Catholic Community campus. |
